You've drunk two beers - you're addicted to alcohol

Don't be sad, you've been drinking!

Alcohol in games can be just as weird as sex in video games. The part it plays in games and the effect it has on players can really be very different to real life.  Drink a few beers in Fallout 3, you're addicted to alcohol, drink a few test tubes of what looks like purple Sourz (people who drink Sourz like some hardcore shot be aware it's 15% you're pretty much doing a shot of wine) and you wake up next to an Asari. Maybe it's doing a good thing representing alcohol like this -you know, drinking responsibly and all that.

But take it back to the real world and you don't have to wander far through the digital smorgasbord that is the internet to find game inspired cocktails. Just head over to the The Drunken Moogle to find a plethora of game inspired shots and cocktails. Can't be bothered buying all the ingredients and mixing it yourself? Then pop to Loading Bar down in Falmouth where the kind peeps there will make a load of game inspired drinks for you, and you can play some of your favourite games while you're at it! Falmouth too far for you? Then cough up some gold coins and help them open up a bar in London! (Click here to donate and earn some serious XP)
Then after you've finished with all that, developed the drunken munchies for some of Fall Out 3 Yum Yum Devilled eggs or Beyond Good & Evils K-Bups, then you only have to venture here! (She also makes some good game cocktails too).

But enough of cocktails, cool gaming bars and culinary gaming delights, I'm all about the beer! Beer does tend to feature quite a lot in games but are never really branded within the game world because developers are too busy with other stuff like good gameplay and immersive storylines. Apparently that's more important than creating fictional brands for geeks to write seemingly meaningless blogs about.

I've done a bit of research though and here are some beer brands featured in games that maybe some of you budding home brewers could try and create! And if you do create any of these, remember who gave you the idea and send samples this way!

Skyrim - Argonian Ale

I was an ale drinker like you once, till I took an arrow to the throat.

An ale that gives you stamina? I'll buy that for 5 gold! The Argonian ale only appears once as a side quest which once you give it away you receive a healing potion. What!? Beer or witchcraft healing potion, technically aren't they the same thing?
Anyway can't give much to what this would taste like but will give you a boost of energy and then it'll take you a while to get that energy back. Much like any beer really.

Deus Ex Human Revolution - Various

Probably the game with the most brands of beer and surprisingly all with tasting notes! Now thats what I call depth to a game. Just step over to the Deus Ex Wiki here to see them all but here's my two favorites.

"The British gave much to India; over 200 years of economic plundering, over 100 years of forced colonial rule, famines, rebellions and... BEER! What the devil?! That's Mahara Jah Hot Devil, sahib." - Mahara Jah Hot Devil Ale

Everything's made better by a beer, especially after 200 years of colonial rule, right?? Well if you do look on the bright side IPA's are one of the best types of beer with massive hop fruity flavours so I'm sure a futurist one from a world full of augmented humans would blow your socks off!

"The Purple Dragon rises from the east like a slap in the face, and never lets you down. Purple Dragon beer has been brewed by the Dongfang company since 1674. 4 billion Chinese can't be wrong." - Purple Dragon beer

What a strap line, although thinking about it with a dirty mind just sounds like a really poor way to initiate sexy times in the morning...which brings me onto my next beer....

Borderlands - Clitz (ahem)

Oh Gearbox so mature. Now you may be able to get a beer like this on the wasteland of Pandora but don't think this would get past the Portman group, although saying that there is an energy drink called Pussy so who am I to judge.

Fable 3 - Albion Ale

Now that's what I like to see, a lady drinking ale and getting what she wants. If I had a pub I would probably call it The Albion and serve beer from pewter steins. A beer for heroes? Isn't beer for heroes anyway? And not just bearded sandal wearing ones at that. I only wear sandals...

So there are the beers from games, if you are some kind of homebrewer why don't you make your own interpretation and send me it so I can judge! Or maybe just drop a comment on other drinks in games you think should be IRL.
